Lead Service Replacement Information

Lead Service Line Replacement Program

Protecting Our Water. Preserving Our Health.

The Village of Forest Park is committed to ensuring the safety and quality of our drinking water. As part of this commitment, we are actively replacing lead water service lines throughout the community. This initiative is a critical step in protecting public health and modernizing our water infrastructure.

Why Replace Lead Service Lines?

Lead can enter drinking water when plumbing materials that contain lead corrode. Even low levels of lead exposure can be harmful, especially to young children and pregnant women. Replacing lead service lines helps eliminate this risk and ensures cleaner, safer water for all residents.

Project Overview

  • Scope: Replacement of lead service lines from the buffalo box (shut-off valve near the property line) to the water meter inside the home.
  • Funding: The project is currently being funded through the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency’s (IEPA) State Revolving Fund, with over $2.3 million awarded to Forest Park. This funding includes principal forgiveness, meaning the Village does not need to repay the amount.
  • Goal: Replace all lead service lines across the Village.
  • Timeline: Work is ongoing and will continue in phases based on priority and accessibility. Some lead line replacements are being done when watermain work is being completed.

What Residents Need to Know

  • No Cost to You: The replacement is currently funded and comes at no cost to homeowners.
  • Right of Entry Agreement: To participate, residents must sign a Right of Entry Agreement allowing contractors to access the property for replacement work.
  • Water Service Line Survey: Help us identify your service line material by completing a short Water Service Line Material Survey.
  • Health & Safety: Temporary water disruptions may occur during replacement, but all efforts will be made to minimize inconvenience.

How to Participate

  1. Check Your Mail: Eligible households will receive notification letters.
  2. Sign the Agreement: Complete and return the Right of Entry form.
  3. Schedule the Work: A contractor will contact you to schedule the replacement.
  4. Enjoy Safer Water: Once complete, your home will be connected to a lead-free water line.
