The Forest Park Public Library continues renovation. This is expected to last through March 2020. The library plans to stay open as much as possible, however, certain areas will be unavailable during the process. On Saturday, May 5, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon, Forest Park National Bank & Trust Co., is sponsoring a FREE sensitive document shredding event in its Madison Street Parking Lot.
Effective tonight, the Village will aggressively enforce the snow route ban as heavy snowfall is anticipated throughout our region. We encourage you to put your vehicle away, however if you must remain on the street, be sure to avoid parking along a snow route. Snow routes are clearly marked along each street and are most often can be found on the side of the street with the street light poles. If you must leave your car on the street, please contact the parking division at 708-366-7272. This ban will remain in effect until Sunday.

Mayor Anthony Calderone received great news last week when he received notice that the Village will be the recipient of a Technical Assistance Grant via the Rivers, Trails and Conservation Assistance (RTCA) Program of the National Park Service. The grant will provide expert technical assistance in the development of a Cultural Park.
The Village Public Works department will begin hauling leaves from the street effective October 15th. Prior to that time, kindly discard your leaves with your yard waste. Thank you.
The Village of Forest Park has opted to revert back to ComEd for your electricity supply as they are currently the lowest cost provider. You will be receiving notice From ComEd that you are no longer with Constellation New Energy. You needn’t do anything. This is for information purposes only. Questions? The Village of Forest Park will host an official public forum to discuss information known about Video Gaming. This forum makes good on a promise made by Mayor Calderone and the Village Council in May of this year when, after pressured by local businesses, the subject of Video Gaming in Forest Park resurfaced. The Mayor waited until July to host the forum as one elected official was out of the country during the month of June and in the name of fairness, postponed hosting the event until the Commissioner’s return.

Recent discussions about Video Gaming on the Council floor directed staff to coordinate a public forum with a balanced member panel to be held on a “to be determined” Saturday in the month of May. Ideally the panel would consist of respected representatives in both opposition and in favor of the gaming law. Council members identified panelists they hoped to have participate which included some members from a recent forum in Riverside, IL, and added to the list representatives from towns similar to Forest Park who both allow and prohibit video gaming.

The Commissioner of Public Property for the Village of Forest Park is seeking resident volunteers to serve on a committee to help administer a public art project slated for summer 2017.
The Forest Park Police Department has adopted a new policy where officers will now carry two doses of the lifesaving opiate antidote NARCAN, and will be trained in its use over the next couple of months.

YOUTH MENTORING is coming to Forest Park this Spring! Youth from the Forest Park area are invited to participate in a FREE Big Brothers Big Sisters Mentoring Program. The mentoring program will take place every other Wednesday from 6-7:30pm at the Howard Mohr Community Center, 7640 Jackson Blvd in Forest Park. Youth in grades 5-7 will be matched with a caring, professionally screened mentor of the same gender.
An aggressive and sophisticated phone scam targeting taxpayers, including recent immigrants, has been making the rounds throughout the country. Callers claim to be employees of the IRS, but are not. These con artists can sound convincing when they call. They use fake names and bogus IRS identification badge numbers. They may know a lot about their targets, and they usually alter the caller ID to make it look like the IRS is calling. Victims are told they owe money to the IRS and it must be paid promptly through a pre-loaded debit card or wire transfer.
The Forest Park Youth Soccer Association is preparing the league for another season this coming Spring. FPYSA's Little Kickers divison introduces the basics of soccer to boys and girls ages three to five years old. The league's team divsion includes players up through 8th grade. The 2016 Spring season will run from the second week in April through the third week in June. There are no tryouts and every child plays. He will have a Village issued Picture ID and will present the ID immediately. This employee will be replacing the battery in your water meter so that it can be read electronically. AARP Tax Aide for Seniors & Disabled helps low, to moderate income people, especially those 60 and older, prepare their taxes, ensuring the get all the deducations and credits they deserve. Illinois Department of Transportation is analyzing traffic noise as part of the general study of I290, from west of Mannheim Road to Racine Avenue. Public forums will be held to discuss the potential installation of noise walls along the Eisenhower Expressway in conjunction with the planned roadway improvements. The project traffic noise analysis has indicated that noise levels in our area warrant the consideration of noise walls and IDOT strongly encourages local participation at the meetings. On September 19, 2015, the Village of Forest Park dedicated a memorial to four fallen Public Safety officers whose lives were cut short as a result of their chosen profession. The Memorial stands at Remembrance Park located at Randolph and Circle and is a fitting tribute to those individuals. A brief bio on each fallen hero follows as well as photos taken from the event. The Forest Park Dog Park has been closed for a number of weeks due to the risk of spreading canine influenza. Cook County Department of Animal Control still warns that caution should be used when grouping animals together as the virus can pass easily and a carrier may not show signs of infection. As such the Village will be posting the following notice upon reopening its park:
Due to the increased risk of canine upper respiratory disease in the Chicagoland area, the Village is taking precautionary steps in temporarily closing its Dog Park to avoid transmission of this virus to our beloved pets.
Signs and symptoms of CIV are nasal discharge, coughing (dry, similar to kennel cough), sneezing, lethargy, lack of appetite, fever and difficulty breathing that can lead to pneumonia if left untreated.
After nearly a year since its inception, Mayor Calderone's Economic Development Committee has completed its work with Business Districts Inc., who submitted a final report to the Village Council last month. Calling all parents! Forest Park Kiwanis has joined forces with the All American Soap Box Derby to host a Derby Day on Sat., May 9, 2015 along the Circle Avenue Bridge. Since 1934, Soap Box Derby is a fun competitive youth racing program for boys and girls ages 8-18.
